What to check first in AI-written code
A short list of the things generated code gets wrong often enough to check every time.
This is a placeholder post. It exists so the Insights section has something to render and so the layout can be checked at real text lengths.
The shape of the problem
Generated code is usually syntactically fine and locally plausible. What it misses is the part that lives outside the file: the invariant enforced three modules away, the retry that already exists in the caller, the column that is nullable in production but not in the fixture.
What that means for review
Reading generated code like a colleague’s code is the mistake. A colleague’s code carries the assumption that they held the system in their head. Generated code carries no such assumption, so review has to supply it.
